“The mop is dry” can mean that the cleaning mode did not call for water, the pad or tank is not installed as expected, the robot is not dispensing water, or a dock is not washing or refilling the robot. Record the robot and dock models, country, cleaning mode, floor type, water settings, any app message, and whether the issue began after cleaning, a firmware change, or a part replacement.

Start with the setup

Check that the robot is in a mode that uses the mop, the correct pad holder or plate is installed, and the tank is filled and seated as its manual shows. Verify any carpet-avoidance setting and whether the pad is attached correctly. If the pad is only less wet than expected, check the model’s water or pad-wetness settings before suspecting a blockage.

Use only water or cleaning solution approved for the exact model. For example, Dreame’s guidance for the L10s Ultra and L20 Ultra names particular water and pad-wetness settings, recommends its approved solution, and suggests checking firmware. Those app labels and liquid rules are model-specific. iRobot’s Roomba 200/2000 Combo guidance prohibits hot water, detergent, disinfectant, and other unapproved products in its tank; other models have their own limits.

Carpet settings can also affect whether a mop reaches a rug. Roborock describes four modes: Rise lifts the mop and stops water after carpet detection while vacuuming continues; Avoid excludes carpets; Ignore is intended for homes without carpets or where mats may be mopped; and Cross passes over carpet or a doormat without cleaning it. The FAQ does not name supported models or app versions, so confirm the mode on the exact robot before changing it. For a DEEBOT X5 OMNI White that wets carpet during a mop run, see the model-specific carpet guide.

Find where water stops

Separate the water path into three questions:

  1. Does the dock have water and wash the pad? Check the clean- and used-water tanks, their seating, and the dock’s app status. On a dock that reports a code, use the exact dock’s code guide. For example, iRobot AutoWash errors distinguish refill or water-level issues from a possible leak; those codes do not apply to other docks.
  2. Does the robot dispense water? For Dreame L10s Ultra, L10 Ultra, L20 Ultra, and L30 Ultra models, Dreame describes a specific test without the mop pads but with the holder installed: start a mopping task from the base and check for water droplets after five minutes. This test is not a general procedure for other robots. Follow the current instructions for the named model, and do not poke or open an outlet unless its manufacturer’s procedure explicitly calls for it.
  3. Is the water reaching the cloth? A dry, clogged, worn, or incorrectly seated pad can make mopping look ineffective even when the water path works. Inspect and clean or replace it only as the exact model’s manual permits.

When a Qrevo Edge mop is not washed

Roborock lists separate mop-washing conditions for the Qrevo Edge Series, robot RRE0VCM and dock EWFD30HRR. Its manual says cloths are not washed if they were not used, and a washing return requires cleaning to have started from the dock with the dock present on the app map. It also names the clean- and dirty-water tanks, removable tray module, and filter installation as checks. These details apply only to the named robot and dock; the manual does not establish a regional retail crosswalk for this dock. Use the exact manual and app message, and do not open a pump or assume an unused cloth indicates a failed water system.

A dock-side example: Dreame L20 Ultra

Dreame’s L20 Ultra base-station guidance says that incompatible cleaning fluid, an obstruction in the clean-water tank seal or piping, or a base-station issue can stop water from reaching the mop during washing. Its listed check includes inspecting the tank seal and accessible piping, then removing the robot and holding the dock button for three seconds to test water flow. This is specific to the L20 Ultra base; it is not a universal pump test. If the documented check fails or the dock leaks, stop and contact Dreame support rather than opening the pump.

Keep water and electricity apart

Stop if water has leaked onto the floor near a plug, cord, or exposed electrical part. Disconnect the dock only if you can do so safely without touching water or wet equipment. Do not open a sealed pump, add an unapproved cleaner, or buy a replacement pad, pump, or dock until the exact robot, dock, region, and part number are confirmed.

If the pad is wet but smells, see robot mop pad odor; drying and odor have a different diagnostic path from missing water.
