A missing room, shifted wall, repeated boundary, or old dock location can come from an unfinished mapping run, an obstructed route, a moved station, or the wrong saved map. Start by identifying the robot model, map name and floor, app version, current dock location, and what changed before the map looked wrong. Take a screenshot before editing. Mapping features and saved-map behavior vary by model and region.

Check the conditions for a complete map

Use the exact manufacturer’s instructions for the mapping mode you selected. Some robots create or update a map during a cleaning run; others offer a separate quick-map feature. Xiaomi’s UK FAQ says to place the station as the model manual directs and start the mapping clean from the station; it notes that a room larger than 120 m² may prevent map creation, but does not identify the supported model or define a universal capacity limit. For Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro Quick Map, the UK FAQ says partially closed doors or following too close can leave areas missing. Open doors and give the robot room to scan. If the map remains incomplete, that 5 Pro FAQ describes rebuilding it or running a full-house clean to update missing zones; review the saved-data effect before deleting a map.

Before a new mapping run, check for closed doors, movable obstacles, changed furniture, or a dock that was moved after the map was made. Confirm that the robot can reach the areas it should map and that the app is showing the intended floor. Tapo’s map guidance distinguishes map creation and management for its supported robot models; use the exact model’s app steps and confirm that the correct map is selected.

For Tapo, distinguish a distorted map from a route that repeats an area. Its support pages identify mid-run movement, wet-floor wheel slip, obstacles, reflective surfaces, and sunlight as possible contributors to abnormal maps or paths. The repeat-area FAQ is specifically about Tapo RV10 and recommends checking current app/robot firmware and accessible debris at the front bumper and main wheels; it does not establish that the map itself is corrupt. Sensor care is also series-specific: the cited FAQs distinguish RV20/RV20 Max front-sensor cleaning from RV30/RV30 Max LiDAR debris checks. Follow the exact model instructions and never open a sensor assembly.

Samsung describes a different map behavior for Jet Bot Visionary Mapping: its in-run virtual map is removed at the end of a cycle or if the robot is lifted, and it is not used for later navigation. Confirm whether the exact Jet Bot model stores a persistent app map before treating a disappearing in-run map as a failed saved map. Its resume behavior also differs by cleaning mode; check the model FAQ before expecting every task to continue after recharge.

Preserve a usable map before changing it

Do not erase a saved map as the first troubleshooting step. A reset or new map can remove room labels, no-go zones, furniture placement, or other saved settings, depending on the product. Record or screenshot the current map and its zones, and review the exact manual or app prompt to learn what will be retained before you delete, restore, or replace it.

If only one room or zone is missing, compare the saved map with the route the robot actually completed. Check whether doors were closed during mapping, the room was inaccessible, a boundary was set, or a room name changed. If the whole map shifted after moving the dock or carrying the robot, follow that model’s recovery guidance instead of layering a second map over the first.

Escalate repeat mapping failures

Run only a manufacturer-approved mapping task and supervise it if the robot could enter stairs, wet areas, or unsafe spaces. If it repeatedly loses its position, creates a new map unexpectedly, or cannot complete a map with a clear route, save screenshots and app logs and contact the manufacturer. Do not open a navigation sensor or disable a cliff sensor to make mapping continue.

For a robot that maps successfully but stops or misses a route, see stopping and navigation diagnosis. If the app cannot reach the robot, see offline and connection troubleshooting.
